Cause of Loss: foundered in a storm. The Tasmania was originally launched as the James Couch at Port Huron, Michigan. She was renamed in 1890 as the Tasmania. Converted into a schooner barge around 1894, she foundered in a gale when towed by the propeller Bulgaria. Her entire crew of eight were lost. The other vessel survived. She was dynamited to clear the way to navigation on July, 13th, 1906.Her anchor was stolen by divers during the summer of 1987. The anchor was returned on June 3rd, 1989.
